To have any chance at seeing an ABC affiliate, you'll need an antenna with L-VHF capability.

Consider the Winegard HD7084P, Antennacraft HD1850 or Channel Master CM-5020. (I'd opt for the Winegard.)

I'd equip the antenna with an Antennas Direct PA-18 preamplifier also.

An attic install has very little chance for success, due to lower signal levels and higher interference levels. You'll no doubt need to mount outside, clear of obstructions such as trees and structures.

Thank you for the recommendation. I originally posted the reception report for my brother two years ago and someone else suggested the winegard hd 7698. How do these two antennas compare? Is the larger 7084 going to be significantly better and will one work better without a rotating motor? The antenna will be mounted on a roof about 20 feet above ground. Thanks.
