First thank you for any assistance you provide me with, I would have made what is apparently a poor choice if I had not found this forum. I was planning to follow my fathers purchase of a Lava amplified antenna since he has had good results with it, but I would rather buy something that will last.

As far as the report I would like to be able to pick up the stations in the 70 - 116 degree range, but I am not sure if that wide of a range/distance is even possible. Alternately I want to be able to add a motor to rotate the antenna at a later date for the stations in the 287 - 306 degree range if possible.

I would also like to ask if the RCA ant3036w would be a good choice for this application. It is available at a local wal-mart, so if there were an issue it would make for an easy resolution.

Thank you in advance,

Bart

The ANT-3036 is a good option based on your TV Fool reception report and the local availability of it.

If I were to order an antenna, I'd opt for a Winegard HD7084P which is quite similar, but the performance specs are well documented and some would say the build quality is also superior.

I'd start with the expectation that the signals to the west are much more likely to be received reliably. To the east, real CH-7 & CH-22 are fairly easy to receive, but everything else will be more of a challenge due to weak signal levels along with co-channel and adjacent channel interference problems.

The ANT-3036 All channel antenna will work Ok for your reception location , however the build quality is not so good.

A All channel antenna that has better build quality is the , http://www.antennacraft.net.

HD1800 All channel antenna. HD=Heavy Duty.

Install the HD1800 antenna Above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not , obstructing , impeding , blocking , reception in the directions of , West North West and East North East , East , East South East.

The Main group of Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels are to the West North West.

Aim the HD1800 antenna at about 287 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna , do not trust a cell phone compass.

Install a , http://www.antennacraft.net.

10G201 preamplifier.

The FM radio interference trap of the preamplifier will be in the , in/on position.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-4D , 4 way splitter.

Most likely , KETK Real UHF channel 22 , NBC , and , KLTV Real VHF high band channel 7 , will be received through the back of the antenna.

The other Tv stations to the ~East~ are Very Weak Signal Strength and have , Adjacent Channel and Co-Channel interference issues.

Not recording friendly.

And their , Will Be Domestic Issues , about the direction the antenna is aimed.

I'd suggest skipping the 3036. It has the unneeded low-VHF elements (there's nothing of interest on low-V in DFW) which makes it huge and it is of rather light-weight construction.

A larger high-VHF/UHF combo aimed at Cedar Hill should work well. Add a medium gain pre-amp if cabling exceeds 100' or if you will be using two or more sets.

If you opt for an antenna that omits support for real CH-2 through CH-6, you get less wind load and a bit slimmer profile. You also give up any reasonable chance at receiving KHFW-LD, real CH-4, an Hispanic religious station that is not currently on the air (per rabbitears.info) or KSFW-LD, real CH-2, an infomercial broadcaster.

If you want to go this route, the Antennacraft HBU-44, HBU-55 or Winegard HD7698P come to mind.

The situations with many Tv stations is , that Tv stations are for sale and the programing / networks can change.

So even though the Tv station is not on the air now or the network programing may or may not be of interest now .

A Tv station can begin transmitting and the network programing can change.

A All channel antenna such as the HD1800 antenna will receive the low band Tv channels of 2 thru 6.

And will also receive , VHF high band channels 7 thru 13 , UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

--------------

The Bashing of VHF low band channels 2 thru 6 Bashing is a Popular Sport now days.

There is ZERO interest among the full-power broadcasters in the low-VHF spectrum unless they are already there.

Zero interest is not true evaluation.

Full power broadcasters are not required to transmit at full power.

There are -->MANY<-- Tv broadcasters that have less then full power broadcast licenses.

If the requirement to be a Tv stations is all Tv stations must be full power then their would be very few Tv stations in the USA.

I've not seen any major network affiliate expressing regret for their UHF assignment. I can't say the same for the few who chose a Low-VHF channel or were forced to accept one.

Regardless, the choice is not complex in this case. bart, if you want to get every possible signal then a large all channel antenna is indicated, and we've listed several valid options.

If your choice is to use a slightly smaller antenna and forgo one infomercial channel, then you have several good suggestions to look at.

Best regards

When I asked my first question I jumped the gun and asked the wrong question. After the answers provided (thanks you) I have read as much as possible to get a better understanding, but I need help.

We want to receive as many stations that broadcast to the Tyler area as possible. We live and work in East Texas and want the local news so these stations are what we are after. So with that said can y'all take a second look and advise me on a path to achieve my goal?

Any help is appreciated,

Bart

To receive as many stations as possible my recommendation is the same.

The majority of the signals that are receivable at your location originate from the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

The Antennacraft HD1800 suggested by telview is a valid option, it's similar to and a competitor of the Winegard HD7084 and the RCA ANT-3036. If you want to get every possible signal, I would point you to one of these antennas. Based on performance and build quality, I would choose the Winegard. Cost and availability are valid criteria for you to use if you are choosing between these options.

If you have a desire to use a slightly narrower antenna, and you don't care to receive the signal(s) that may be available now or later on real CH-2 through CH-6... Then I would suggest the Winegard HD7698P.

The choice is entirely yours.
