Antenna Recommendation Rancho Bernardo/San Diego

I am located in San Diego and appear to have a difficult location for OTA reception. I am planning to install the antenna in an attic of a single story home. Below is the link to the tvfool report. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would plan on mounting outdoors, clear of the obstruction and impairment created by the roof and attic construction.

Your report is similar to many in the San Diego area. A UHF antenna and separate H-VHF antenna can give you a very good shot at reliable reception.

Consider the Antennas Direct DB8E facing about 147° (compass) and an Antennacraft Y10713 pointed at 204°. An RCA TVPRAMP1R preamplifier has separate inputs for the two antennas.

I ended up finding a DB8 locally and put it in the attic and was able to pull in all channels at 147 degrees. Thanks! Ordering the other antenna today and preamp suggested today. I am planning to connect 2 TVs and a DVR with 1 tuner. Do you have any suggestions on a splitter and amplifier? Longest cable run will be approximately 35 feet.

The preamp should provide plenty of power to overcome cable and splitter losses. I'd avoid the temptation to add a distribution amplifier. Remember, the antennas suggested have passive gain which adds to the available signal power without adding noise or distortion. I've been quite satisfied with the Ideal splitters stocked at the local big box home center. For three tuners, I'd suggest the Ideal # 85-133.

Got everything installed and was able to get all channels from both vhf and UHF antennas. Thanks again and really appreciate the assistance. Now on to building a DVR.

As of late, I've been using a Linux PC as my PVR/DVR.

Mythbuntu is an open-source option. XBMC is another.

For basic recording, I simply use a script to control one of my SiliconDust HDHR tuners and write to the hard drive in MPEG2 format, which is viewable via VLC.
