Greetings. About two years I switched to OTA and haven't looked back, it works great at my permanent residence and I get pretty much all I want from TV. But, I live in an urban area and just threw a MoHu Leaf on top of my set and get something like 20 channels.
I recently decided to do the same at my cabin in the mountains, and I have found a lot of conflicting info about what I need to get a few channels there. The signals are not great, the terrain is challenging to say the least, and would appreciate any advice from the experts here. Some sites say I may not get ANYTHING at my location.
The signal analysis is as follows...

I obviously need a VHF antenna, and a pre-amp. What is not clear to me is...
Do I need a directional antenna? This is challenging, because I am just over the first edge of the Blue Ridge escarpment. We get wind. Like, they made me engineer my cabin for 110mph gust. It has 10' tall 3/4" steel bolts every 30" inside the walls. Sticking one on a post on the roof is probably a bad idea. Model rec's would be great. I have been thinking about a Antennas Direct ClearStream 4.
Tell me about Preamps, which ones work out outside? I know I need to get it close to the antenna, and that might be about 30" up in a tree near the cabin. I have been thinking about the RCA TVPRAMP1R Outdoor Antenna Preamplifier. But, I know slightly less than nothing when it comes to this piece of gear.
Have you ever seen the look on your dog's face when you pick it up in the air? That's how I look when I am on top of an extended 40' ladder.
I am a large and heavy guy and being 30' off the ground is something I'd rather not do any more than I have to. Having a set-it and forget-it set-up would be great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
