I have tree cover that I can't get around....elevation is good though. Just go with the biggest and hope for the best?

(first post, hope everything is correct with analysis etc)

Well, let's get some more info. What type of trees, how close, how tall, what direction, etc? Or when you say tree cover, do you mean you are in the shade all day? How high can you mount an antenna?

Have you tried any level of antenna yet?

It does look like you have about 46 miles to some of the towers and there's some elevation between you and them.

Bigger is more directional. But you probably have some stations SW and NE of you that you would want. What are you after?

The report you've posted is flagged as an approximate location. If the information is close to accurate, you have no risk of overloading any tuners if you opt for an antenna with the highest available gain.

If you want to try for reception of the Low-VHF (real CH-2 through 6) signals listed, the Winegard HD7084P is a good option. Otherwise, antennas such as the Winegard HD7698P would be appropriate. When going after moderate and weak signals ranging from real CH-7 up to real CH-51, I like the Antennas Direct 91XG paired with the Antennacraft Y10713.

Trees are going to be a problem to some degree.

Thanks for the responses.

The street resolution is very close. No problems there.

I want to get the NY channels at the southwest part of the chart.
The trees are pretty thick as I live in the country. They are close to the house and I can't get above them.

How can I actually check reception without taking the gamble and buying an antenna?

The previous owner of the house did have an old antenna on the roof but that was 15 years ago and it was taken down as soon as I moved in and got DirecTV.

Check with Home Depot, if there's one close to you. Their return policy is incredibly lenient. Double check their online policy before giving them your cash.
