Hello,
I finally decided to drop DirecTv because it was costing to much and hook up to a couple of antennas that were given to me by a friend. One is a RCA ANT3038XR Outdoor Antenna and the other is an Antennacraft C490 Outdoor Antenna. Both are VHF/UHF antennas. They were both new still in the box's. I live in a rural area of Tennessee in a town called Ethridge. Nashville is around 76.6 miles NNE of me and Huntsville AL is around 69.4 miles SSE of me. They are where my main TV towers are located. I have both antennas on different masts approximately 20 feet in the air. I have the antennas ran through a Radio Shack 1500321 High-Gain Signal Amplifier. The stations that I receive are:

WKRN ABC 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 Nashville
WSMV NBC 4.1, 4.2 Nashville
WTVF CBS 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 Nashville
WNPT PBS 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 Nashville
WPGD TBN 50.1, 50.2, 50.3, 50.4, 50.5 Nashville
WHDF CW 15.1 Huntsville
WHNT CBS 19.1, 19.2 Huntsville
WHIQ PBS 25.2, 25.2, 25.3 Huntsville
WAAY ABC 31.1 Huntsville
WZDX FOX 54.1, 54.2, 54.3 Huntsville

I get around 70% on all of the Nashville stations but only get around 50% on the Huntsville stations. There are a few more Nashville stations that I get when I do a scan but I can pick them up for a second and then they are gone. They are:

WZTV FOX 17.1 Nashville
WNPX ION 28.1, 28.2, 28.3, 28.4 Nashville
WUXP MYTV 30.1 Nashville
WAFF NBC 48.1, 48.2 Huntsville

I can pick up 17 and 30 at night sometimes but in the morning they are gone. I was wondering what I could try to to do to get these channels in and also raise the % of my Huntsville stations. Maybe go up another 10 feet with both antennas. My TV Signal Analysis Results are: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3dc84fe46ad756d9
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Disconnect ALL parts of the radio shack preamplifier , the preamp , the power injector , the power supply.

Return the radio shack preamplifier for a refund or put it in the trash.

The 2 antennas Will Not be connected on to one coax.

Aim the C490 at Nashville.

Aim the RCA ANT3038XR at Hunsville.

Run Separate coaxes from each antenna to the location of the Tv and connect the Separate antennas and Separate coaxes to a Remote control A/B antenna switch , http://www.mcmelectronics.com #32-4425.

Digital Tv tuners can develop - Digital Glitches - that are not cleared out with a simple channel scan. Do this http://www.dtv.gov.com/rescan.html.

Most Digital Tv's can rescan and add channels without losing the first channel scan.

And some Digital Tv's can add channels manual one at a time.

The -->REAL Channel<-- that is being transmitted and received is what is Added one at a time.

The tvfool channel list , lists the REAL Channel and the Virtual Number.

_________________________________________

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real good job of reducing or blocking Digital Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

Are the two antennas both run into the same amp, or a separate amp for each?

I have them both going through the same booster. I did replace an old two way splitter and the signal did come in better though. After I changed the splitter the Huntsville stations come in at around 73%.

That's your problem right there; two different signals being fed down the same coax. Each antenna has to have it's own coax. They can be properly joined in a variety of ways, but cannot just be combined. Your tuner can't render you a clean picture w/two antenna signals. Take one of the antennas out of the loop and see how the performance is for the stations it points at. Then try the same for the other.

As for joining them, one way is to use an A/B switch. That's like a traffic light for them - one stops while the other goes. A/B switches can be manual or remote controlled. Another way would be a tuner that accepts two different coax inputs. Some TV's have that.
