First kick at this
We are with SHAW. Sat dish is connected to 3 tv's, which all have their own receiver.
I want to experiment with a SOURCE antenna - CFDTV1a, which I will install in our attic. I plan to disconnect one cable from the SAT and connect to the antenna.
I have check our Tv's and figure out the configurations from analog to digital and from Sat to antenna.
The sale clerk at the SOURCE spoke of cable specs and connector specs. What should I be looking for? Any recommendations would help. Thanks
If this experiment failes, I'll be looking for more help due to my motivation to make this work.

You are less than 3 miles from several local stations. The built in amplifier of the CFDTV1a will be at risk of overload. This is not likely to cause damage to the antenna or TV but will result in very poor performance.
If you already have the antenna, try it in your attic as planned... Unless opening the packaging will prevent you from getting full credit for returning it.
If I were in your situation, I would use an all channel antenna such as the Antennacraft C290 or Channel Master CM-3016 or Winegard HD7000R.

The antenna height of the tvfool radar plot report is 500 feet above ground , I do not think you will be installing a antenna 500 feet above ground.
Please post a more real tvfool radar plot antenna height of 25 feet above.
Please post a second tvfool radar plot report with the antenna height at 25 feet above ground.

Thanks GroundUrmast!
I essentially wanted to try without spending much. You basically convinced me of not wasting my time and energy tweeking with something that may not work properly.
I will move forward with a more viable and durable solution.
I will look for the Winegard HD7000R or Channel Master CM-3016 - saveandreplay.com is saling a few packages.
I'll be back with more questions.
THanks again.

Attics Are Not a reception friendly environment and Never Will be a reception friendly environment.
That said , The Canada Digital Tv stations/channels are strong signal strength and easy to receive.
I recommend a Winegard HD7000R antenna aimed at about 180 degree magnetic compass direction in the attic.
If there are reception issues in the attic that are not resolvable by adjusting the aim or location of the HD7000R in the attic.
Then.
Above the roof install the Winegard HD7000R antenna in such a manner that the roof or house is not blocking reception to the , south west , south , south east.
Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , tripod antenna mount , eave antenna mount , chimney antenna mount.
Aim the HD7000R antenna at about 180 degree magnetic compass direction.
Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

A preamplifier is not required.
____________
At this point it seems like you are testing , to see if you will discontinue service with the pay satellite service.
Disconnect one of the coax from the satellite system that goes to a Digital Tv and connect the coax to the antenna coax.
The Digital Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.
DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Thankfully, you still have a very favorable TV Fool Report at realistic antenna heights.
