HI guys,

I'm back and want to thank you again for all you help several years ago :)
http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=423&highlight=montana

Quick rundown of fact. I'm located near Chester, MT, zipcode 59522. I ended up using the old antenna at my house (24", I thinkt hey call it a winegard style, see pic in the link above). I also bought a Channel Master Titan 7777.

This set up worked great for several years and then everything cut out at once. TV said "no reception". After trying several things, I ended up bypassing the preamp box thing on the mast, but left the powered box thing near the tv connected. By doing this, I regained TV!

So, now I get channels:
1) 3.1 CBS
2) 3.2 CW
3) 5.1 no signal
4) 5.2 no signal
5) 12.1 no signal
6) 13.1 CFCN-5 (W-five)
7) 21.1 no signal

I beleive I lost NBC, ABC, and PBS. I don't watch TV much. So, my question to you is should I buy another Titan Pre-amp? Or something else?

I pose this question as over the last couple years, stations have been swithing to digital and I don't know what would be best again.

Also, can some one explain to me what the two components (mast mounted component and power component near TV) do?

Thanks a million and a big thanks to TigerBAngs for helping me out last time.

See ya.

Thanks for checking back in with us.

It sounds as if the actual preamplifier (the box on the mast near the antenna) failed. Any number of reasons may account for that. (Nearby lighting, power surge, etc.)

There are several good preamplifiers, I'd suggest an Antennas Direct CPA-19. It has better noise specifications and is more resistant to overload.

Regardless of which preamplifier you choose, remove the old power supply. That's the part inside the house near your TV. The new preamplifier kit will come with it's own power supply parts which are not guarantied to be compatible with the old preamplifier parts.

After replacing with the new , preamp , the preamp power supply , power injector.

Do a double rescan.

If you left your balun connected while your power supply was still connected, you may want to replace it, while you're at it..
The fine wires inside the balun may have been damaged.
