Indoor antenna for San Francisco

I've recently canceled my cable service and would like to try out an antenna. I'm just interested in getting whatever basic network channels I can, if possible.

I'm in an apartment building, so it needs to be an indoor antenna -- no option for anything mounted on the building.

I'm just starting to investigate options and learn what's what. If anyone has any suggestions for models they think would work, or general advice, that would be wonderful.

If at all possible, locate the antenna so it has a view through a window to the SW.

Be sure to set the TV tuner to 'antenna' or 'air' mode, not cable. Then scan for channels.

What floor is the apartment?

What is the top floor of the building?

What directions do the windows face?

What directions do the patios or balconies face?

*The apartment is on the first floor.
*The building consists of a garage and then three floors of apartments.
*The windows face north, and very slightly west.
*Sadly, no patios or balconies (I wish!).

Connect a TREK HDTVi antenna.

The Main groups of transmitters is to the , south , south west , south east.
Most likely the best place for reception will be on a south wall.

Aim the antenna 165 to 185 degree magnetic compass , adjust the antenna for best reception.

There are groups of Tv stations to the , north , north west , north east.

Put the HDTVi antenna in a north window to receive those.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or ' Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.
