No TV signal with my TERK HDTV indoor antenna

No luck getting a picture on my new Samsung LED HDTV, not sure if the problem is the TV or the antenna, it says poor or no signal, check antenna cable. What am I doing wrong????? Need help all you experts:confused:

Were you getting good signals on a prior TV?

Also, the TV is not on its Cable setting, but Antenna (or Air or Broadcast), right?

I do not have cable or satelite, but I used to get a few local channels on my old TV that had a convertor box and a Tivax indoor antenna. Now I got a new TV and a new antenna and for some reason I am not getting a single channel, trying to figure out what the problem is. I live in NYC and the towers about 12 miles. Would appreciate any guidance... thanks

A Teleview Recommendation for Tv Reception.

The Main groups of Digital Tv stations/channels are to the south west , aim the HDTVa antenna at about 220 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim indoor antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Put the antenna in a window that is to the south west type direction.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Your location has receivable Digital Tv stations/channels in ALL 3 Tv bands.

VHF low band channels 2 thru 6.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF band channel 14 thru 51.

Examples:

WKOB-LD REAL VHF channel 02 , virtual number (42.1) http://www.hottvchannel.com.

WABC-TV REAL VHF channel 07 , virtual number (7.1) ABC.

WWOR-TV REAL UHF channel 38 , virtual number (9.1) My Network.

That being the case , All Tv bands , Install a large ALL Band Tv Antenna.

If this is a , house , town home , condo , mobile home , or etc.

Install a Winegard HD7082P antenna with - no preamplifier - Above the roof aimed at about 220 degree magnetic compass direction.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter , no amplifier.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter , no amplifier.

For 3 or 4 Tv's connected use a Channel Master CM3414 distribution amplifier.

Can you give us the model number of the TV? Your user manual should provide the instructions on how to set the tuner to 'antenna' or 'air'.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing and blocking Tv reception and so buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antenna at location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the direction of reception (south west).

So the problem was the TV set to the cable setting, changing it to Air channels and then auto scanning for channels got me about 12 channels, of which just one, CBS has a real good signal. I guess now its a matter of just positioning the antenna to get better reception, but for now I'll leave it alone so mum can watch her fav 60 mins show tonight.
Would having an out door antenna be a better choice? It seems such a waste having a great TV (the pic quality is just awsome) with such limited coverage.

Glad to hear you got it going.

Yes, outdoor is always going to be better. Getting some altitude (you can experiment on TV fool with antenna elevation) will generally improve your situation provided you don't have obstacles like buildings or trees in your near field.
