I do not have any existing antenna or equipment - only a HDTV.

My wife and I are trying very hard to go cable-free so getting at the minimum the network channels (FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC) are critical.

I live in a university-owned campus apartment. The building I'm in is two stories, and we are on the first. We have a large sliding glass door that faces east.

The university does not allow mounting antennas on the building, so anything outside would have to sit on our patio.

I'm looking for help in how to get good reception for those channels. I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff, but I do have a degree in mathematics, so I can be taught :)

Out on the East patio , a ANT751 antenna aimed at about 90 degree magnetic compass direction.

http://www.solidsignal.com , has a ANT751 antenna with a J mount type antenna mount , low dollars.

The best way to get the coax from the antenna on the patio to the Tv in the apartment is the coax goes through a hole through the wall.

Here is another way to do it , Flat Coax # 144823.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Can also try reception with the ANT751 antenna inside of the apartment with the ANT751 aimed through the glass patio doors.
