Help with selecting an antenna

I'm planning on installing an antenna before football season starts and could use some help in selecting one. The antenna will be installed in an attic with a standard asphalt shingle roof. Antenna height will be about 22' high. Since I live between Milwaukee and Chicago I have a choice of two directions but I'd prefer Milwaukee stations to watch the Packers.

If you want to have both markets, they're in reach.

If you want to go after 'as many as possible', then go big. In the attic, I'm thinking Antennacraft HD1850... but it's long and wide, 15' long and just over 9' wide. As you go down in size, you reduce your hope of seeing the Low-VHF signals... If you change your mind about attic mounting, the Antennacraft is fairly easy to refold without damage. If you chose to mount outdoors, the Winegard HD7084 would be another option... it has a reputation for being more difficult to refold though.

If you aren't inclined toward 'every possible channel', there are quite a few alternatives that depend on what you 'must have'.

That's a BIG antenna! The basic channels from Milwaukee are fine for me. My family primarily watches Netflix but since I cut off my satellite service last winter I now need a way to watch football. In looking at my house tonight I saw an area of the attic facing north toward Milwaukee that has only vinyl siding rather than asphalt shingles so I think I may place the antenna in that part if it offers me better reception.

Install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp , in the attic aimed at about 360 degree magnetic compass direction.

For one Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmission travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

I read about this antenna and it is supposed to receive channels 7-69. One of the channels I want to receive is channel 4 out of Milwaukee so is there an alternative that will get me channel 4?

During and After the Digital Tv Transisition of June 2009.

Many Tv stations changed the channel that the station is transmitting on , WTMJ NBC is one of those Many Tv stations.

WTMJ-TV , Real UHF Digital channel 28 , virtual number (4.1) NBC.

It looks like there ->might be <- a Tv station transmitting on Real VHF Digital Channel 5 , virtual number (68.1)

However the Restrictions You have placed on antenna location and size of the antenna - Winegard HD7084P - mean that channel 5 will most likely Not be received with a antenna in the attic.

Hence the HD7696P antenna , a smaller antenna that receives channels 7 thru 51 , not 2 thru 6.

Do you think the Winegard HD7694P antenna would be suitable? It is about $30.00 cheaper than the antenna you recommended.

The one word answer is Yes if you will like to Reduce the number of channels that you will receive even more.

Less channels not more.

More Restrictions = less channels.
