Fixing a Problem

I am trying to get the most out of my location.

I currently have a roof mounted antenna, don't know the brand, bought it at Lowes years ago, that does decent, depending on the time of year.

For some reason, during one part of the year, I can get 15 channels, but during the other, only 3. I think it is the Oklahoma wind that could be causing it.

I would like to move to an attic antenna because of this. I am looking to get the HD7698P and install it in my attic. According to my TVF report, I should be getting better results now, even with what I have.

Right now, I am in the 4 channels mark. I am able to get KOET-DT, KQCW-DT, KOTV-DT, and KOKI-DT. Some times, depending on what time of day it is, I can get KTUL.

I really want NBC though, or my wife does, which makes it a priority. I have been able to pick it up in the past.

Current setup:
Roof mounted 15' antenna (No brand)
2 TVs long cable run, about to add a 3rd short cable run.

I would like to move it to the attic because of the wind we get here, but am not opposed to keeping it on the roof. It is currently installed on the roof using an old satellite dish J mount.

Any ideas?

For the signal conditions reported, the HD7698P is an appropriate choice. If you need to remove the antenna from the attic for any reason, you'll also want to consider using an Antennacraft HBU-55 which would be easier to re-fold without damage.

Do you have trees in the area?

If you mount outside, a J-pole is not going to be sturdy enough to support a large antenna. I would opt for chimney, gable, or tripod style mounting. Regardless of the exact type of mount, the antenna is going to do best if it's given a clear view toward the transmitters.

No, actually I am about 5 miles SE of Eufaula, OK in a town called Longtown, OK.

The nearest tress are about 30 to 50 yards away.
With the HD7698P, would I need to pre-amplify it?

I concur with your TV Fool report, it appears to match your described location.

An Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp would be appropriate when driving a 3 or 4-way splitter.

For one Tv connection use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

The outside coax is most likely water damaged.

Replace All outside coax with New RG-6 coax.

All outside coax is suspect of damage even if it looks Ok.

Check All coax and coax connections and etc. .

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels or "Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

Locate the antenna at a location that has the least amount or no amount of obstructions.
